What is Physiotherapy?

iStock_000021016066Small.jpgPhysiotherapy is a health profession that specialises in maximising potential human function and movement. Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. From birth through to seniors, physiotherapists help everyone function and move better.

What does treatment involve?

Before any action is taken your physiotherapist will assess your condition, diagnose the problem, and help you understand what’s wrong. We work with you to develop a treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, leisure activities, and general health. This will include advice on how you can help yourself; for example, you may be shown exercises that you can do between treatment sessions. Wherever possible your physio will also work with you to help you learn to manage your condition independently for the longer term.

Our treatments involve individualised management and treatment that addresses the cause, not just symptoms. Our treatments may include:

  • Joint manual therapy that release or mobilise stiff areas to restore movement.
  • Soft tissue release techniques including massage, dry needling/acupuncture or stretching to tight muscles to relieve pain and restore normal muscle length and movement.
  • Home exercise programs
  • Pilates-based rehabilitation to regain strength, normal movement patterns and postures.
